*Our Travels

Labor Day Weekend

We spent a glorious 4-day weekend in Virginia with Lowell’s family over Labor Day weekend. How wonderful that Lowell happened to have one of his 4-days over a holiday weekend like that! We had a short flight from Albany to Baltimore where Mom, Papa, Jane, and Cy –otherwise known as Grandma, Papaw, Auntie Jane, and Uncle Cy :) — came to pick us up. We stopped for a bite to eat and headed home to Manassas where the rest of the family was waiting for us. Everybody loved seeing the girls and couldn’t get over how big Felicity has gotten since they last saw her in July. Faith was SUPER excited to see all the kids and loved having them chase her around the house. She was also excited to see their dogs, Gabe and Madison! She can’t get enough when it comes to animals.

It so happened that in addition to it being Labor Day weekend and Lowell having a 4-day, that his cousin, Sarah Gallaher, was getting married too! So, not only did we get to see his family, including Celeste who flew home from Texas, we got to see alot of his extended family as well. The Gallaher’s already live in Manassas, but Robert, and his wife, Elise, and their baby, Bobby, were there from Gilroy, CA. And, Joseph was there from Camp Penelton, near San Diego, CA, where he has been for the past few months training after graduating from Marine bootcamp in May, so we got to see ALL the Gallaher clan. His cousins, Magdalena and Bridget (Leon Schaper’s girls), were also there with Magdalena’s baby, Giles. Mags was in the wedding and her hubby wasn’t able to make it, so she had Bridget to help with Giles. I am so glad she had help like that! She is prego with number 2 and it would have been interesting trying to get Giles to be happy with cousins he doesn’t know too well. And, Grandma Ruth (Schaper) was there, too! She is one heck of a grandma, let me tell ya. She travels all over the U.S. visitng her family and some of her 60+ grandkids (most of them are already in San Jose, CA where she is from). She also has 5 great grandbabies and 3 more on the way! Infact, we were able to get a shot of her with the first 4 grandbabies at Sarah’s wedding reception. Grandbaby number 5, Isaac, was just born a few days before the wedding so they weren’t able to make it ALL the way out from California for a photo shoot. ;)

After an exciting weekend of endless fun, we had to pack our bags and head home to life again. It was so hard to say good-bye! It is so easy to take things like family and great friendships forgranted when you have them near by, but with Lowell’s family in Virginia and mine in California, it can be hard at times. We really miss being surrounded by our wonderful family and friends, but try to stay focused on the things we DO have right in front of us like our little family, job security, a house over our head, etc. Someday, we will all be close one way or another, and until then we will have many happy memories to ponder in the quietness of our hearts.
