We have had a nice Christmas break/vacation, but I am eager to get back to life come tomorrow morning! Here is a run down of what the first half of the last three weeks have been like for our fam.
A close friend of Lowell’s family, Mike Flynn, came and spent Christmas eve with us before Midnight Mass at St. Michael’s that evening. We had our Christmas dinner that night because we were to spend Christmas day-dinner at my family’s house. We smoked a prime rib, baked rosemary potatoes, and baked broccoli all washed down with red wine and freshly baked sugar cookies for dessert.
We got up early Christmas morning and went to Mass. When we got home, we ate more baked goods topped with fresh fruit. Once all of my hypoglycemic family was fed, and I was coffee’d, we opened gifts. The kids were so excited! Their excitement was so contagious, my cheeks were sore from smiling throughout the duration of it. When we finished, Lowell made the kids clean up their paper trash to take out. I snuck out the back door to capture their reactions when they came out to see they’d all gotten new bikes! I took an adorable video of it, but can’t post it here, unfortunately. I did get some excellent pics, though…
The boys were especially excited because their bikes look like dirt bikes. They love to ride around the yard make noises like their driving dirt bikes, so when we found one on craigslist and got a killer deal on the other at Walmart, it was like a dream come true for them. And Lowell. I think there was a small part of him that was even more excited than George and Phillip! Their reactions were priceless.
We had a low key afternoon. Most of the kids napped, I made 8 1/2 pounds of mashed potatoes, and Lowell made a bunch of mixed alcohol concoctions to take to my family’s house for dinner. We went up there and spent a few hours eating, drinking, gift exchanging, and drinking. We loaded up and headed off to Uncle B’s for dessert and visiting with him. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day!
We went and saw Lowell’s best friend, Tom, and his family, who were in town from the east coast for the holiday, at a Post Christmas/Pre New Year party that was hosted at Tom’s parents’ house a few days after Christmas. We saw a lot of familiar faces and met some new splendid ones. It ended too soon, as all parties do with wonderful friends. We were fortunate enough to meet up with Tom and Nicole one more time before they headed back east again, though. We met up with them, and Tom’s brother, Dan, and his wife, Yenny, at Stone Brewery. We enjoyed amazing beer, phenomenal food, and as always- great conversation. I got ahold of a picture collage the Yenny posted to Instagram from the evening. Thanks, Yenny! ;)
