Current Oily Favs

As some of you may know, I am a huge fan of essential oils.

I am also a huge fan of modern medicine and the medical world. I wouldn’t be here, nor 2 of our babies, without it.

But, when it comes to my family and me, I prefer taking a natural approach to certain things before taking our doctor up on his modern medicine approach.

I have combined a short list of my current favorites to share with y’all today!

Lemon for my laundry
I mix half a cup of hydrogen peroxide a day half a cup of white vinegar with 1-3 drops of lemon essential oil. I pour it in my “liquid bleach” spot in every load. It gets the stink out of towels, helps fight stains, and keeps my colors bright. Added note: my new go to stain remover is hydrogen peroxide and Dawn dish soap. I rub a squirt of both on stains, rub it in real good, no matter the color!, and let it sit anywhere from a few hours to over night. My stains are NEVER there after going through a regular wash load after that treatment. Try it! You won’t go back!

Stings and hives
This summer, we have faced a number of bee/wasp/hornet Stings. We’ve also seen a few random cases of hives, but Lowell had a real bad break out due to his formaldehyde allergy.

He finally stayed home long enough one evening for me to apply lavender 3 times over 30 minutes, so every ten minutes, and I followed it up with some peppermint 10 minutes after the last lavender application.

In 45 minutes, there was no longer evidence of his reaction.

At a BBQ one afternoon, Phillip stumbled upon a wasp nest and they let him have it. Poor guy got stung 4 times on his face, once on his neck, and once on his shoulder. His face immediately was swelling up. I used a similar approach to the hives: lavender twice, ten minutes apart, and then peppermint. Swelling was gone in 30 minutes, and within the hour there was zero evidence of his stings. Sweet!

The health benefits of  lavender oil for the skin can be attributed to its antiseptic and antifungal properties. It is used to treat various skin disorders such as acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, and other inflammatory conditions. Lavender is great for soothing your skin and it can ease discomfort, greatly reduce that infuriating itching, and help with swelling due to bee stings and hives. Adding to those properties: peppermint for cooling your skin and promoting the lavender going deeper into your pores.

Maleleuca for cleaning
I have a spray bottle made up of 2/3 hydrogen peroxide, 1/3 white vinegar, 8 drops of Maleleuca (tea tree), and 5 drops of Purify, and a drop of Dawn dish soap.

I use it for everything! My counters, tables, floors, and mirrors too. I have noticed that the drop of Dawn leaves my mirrors a little sudsy/smeary, so I just squirt my mirror once and use a slightly damp papertowel to wipe clean.

Maleleuca and lemon naturally kill bacteria, and true maleleuca isn’t a fav smell among folks, but it’s a whole lot better than smelling chemicals. Bonus! If your boys like to leave pee all around your toilet, they can use this to clean it up. You’ll only be out any extra they decide to spray all over the rest of your bathroom…. I may or may not be speaking from experience ;).

You could also make a similar concoction swapping maleleuca for eucalyptus and omitting the Dawn. Now, you have an amazing non-rinse after shower spray.

You’ll find vinegar in recipes for DIY cleaners all over the web because it is a great all natural cleaner. It’s also a mild acid so basically serves as a soap scum. Lemon is also acidic and works wonderfully with the hydrogen peroxide in whitening your grout. (hydrogen peroxide can behave as a bleach, but it won’t ruin your colors!) Eucalyptus oil is a degreaser and has natural anti-microbial properties, so it leaves the shower clean in that sense. It’s an odor remover, always good for the shower door track, or the bottom of the shower curtain, which is the first part of the shower to get stinky if it stays wet for hours. And finally, eucalyptus oil smells awesome! So as you revisit your bathroom the rest of the day, you’ll get more a feeling of spa than icky bathroom.

Serenity=Sanity
My go to blend for tension release has been Serenity. It’s calming properties really help me, and the kids, when things start getting blah at any random pint in the day. I diffuse it and I put it on our feet bottoms and across our foreheads. Serenity combines the soothing scents of lavender, marjoram, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, and aromas of Hawaiian sandalwood & vanilla bean to create this aaahhhh-mazing blend.

Because of the oils that make up this blend, it is a great sleepy time oil using it to help achieve a great night’s sleep. After she applies it to her feet and neck, Karolina loves to take what’s left on her hand and rub it all over her nose so she can smell it. She loves oils the most, I think, of the kids. Lavender and Serenity are her equal number ones! Maybe that’s why she’s our most well-rounded kid?? :)

I only use CPTG essential oils. I don’t trust what I can buy at local stores because of the extra things added to them. If we are going to apply these to our skin, breathe them in, or even consume them, I want to be sure they are the purest as possible. Yes, it costs much more, but it lasts forever if you’re using it the right way.

If you are interested in receiving samples of these oils I talked about today, or simply would like to know/understand more about them, let me know! I would love to help you discover the amazingness these oils can be in your life be it personal use or for cleaning! And if you love it, because you might not, but if you do, I would love to assist you in signing up to take advantage of all the benefits that await you in the freedom of placing your own orders whenever you want.
